Uddhav Thackeray : 'The government killed the 'Aarey' forest out of stubbornness', Uddhav Thackeray's strong criticism of the government
On the issue of the 'Aarey' car shed, Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) party chief Uddhav Thackeray has once again strongly criticized the state government. He clarified that he never opposed the metro project, but his stance was that development should occur while maintaining environmental balance.
Uddhav Thackeray said, “It's not that I didn't want the metro. I myself inaugurated Metro Line 2. Our government's clear vision was that the metro should develop, but there was no need to cut down the Aarey forest for it. Kanjurmarg was a suitable and viable place for the car shed.” However, he also mentioned that during that time, there was constant criticism of this decision.
He further said, “We had taken a firm stand to save the Aarey forest. We had shown how development can be done without harming the environment. But today's government stubbornly cut down the Aarey forest and now has also utilized the Kanjurmarg site. So, what exactly was this stubbornness for?” Uddhav Thackeray questioned.
Criticizing the current government, Uddhav Thackeray said that nature is being sacrificed in the name of development, which will have long-term effects on Mumbai's environment. He emphasized that the Aarey area is not just greenery, but an important part like a 'green lung' for Mumbai.
Meanwhile, the issue of the Aarey car shed has once again become the center of political discussion, and the debate of environment versus development is likely to reignite. After Uddhav Thackeray's statement, the entire state is watching for the response from the ruling party.
