IND vs ENG: Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy Inaugurated; Pataudi Medal to Be Awarded to Series-Winning Captain

Cricket Milestone: Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy debuts, Pataudi Medal awaits series-winning captain in IND vs ENG Test series.

A new chapter in cricket history was written as the iconic Pataudi Trophy was officially renamed the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy. This prestigious trophy will now be awarded to the winner of the Test series between India and England — a tribute to two of the sport’s greatest legends: Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of both stalwarts — India’s batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar and England’s legendary fast bowler James Anderson. The event celebrated the legacy of both players, who have redefined Test cricket with their extraordinary contributions.

The newly designed trophy features Tendulkar’s classic cover drive and Anderson’s signature bowling action, alongside their engraved signatures. The redesign and renaming were jointly decided by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), marking a significant moment in cricket diplomacy and mutual respect.

Originally named after the illustrious Pataudi family, the Pataudi Trophy was instituted in 2007 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s first-ever Test match in 1932. It honoured Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and his son Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, the youngest Indian Test captain at age 21. While the trophy has now been renamed, the Pataudi legacy will live on through the Pataudi Medal, which will be awarded to the captain of the series-winning team.

Speaking at the event, James Anderson said,

"This is a very proud moment for me and my family. I’m deeply honoured."

Sachin Tendulkar added,

"For me, Test cricket is a reflection of life. It is the highest form of the game. You give your best, and if something goes wrong, you have time to learn and come back. I’m truly honoured that my name is associated with this trophy."

India is currently in England for a five-match Test series, with the first Test scheduled to begin in Leeds on June 20. All eyes will now be on which team lifts the inaugural Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy and which captain earns the historic Pataudi Medal.
