Pune-Mumbai is one of the busiest and most important highways in the state, and it was completely blocked for 32 hours due to an accident that occurred on Tuesday night. A severe accident involving a gas tanker happened around 1:30 AM on Wednesday night. The tanker overturned, causing a major traffic jam on the highway. Finally, after relentless efforts by the administration, traffic has gradually started to normalize from Thursday morning.

According to the information received, the accident occurred in the Khalapur area on the Pune-Mumbai route. The gas tanker, which was speeding, overturned in the middle of the road as the driver lost control. Since the tanker contained flammable gas, there was a possibility of a major accident after the incident. Therefore, as a precaution, the police and emergency services decided to immediately stop traffic on the entire route.

As soon as the accident was reported, highway police, fire brigade, local administration, and disaster management teams arrived at the scene. Special care was taken to prevent gas leakage. The area was sealed off and citizens were kept at a safe distance. For safety reasons, no movement was allowed for several hours, resulting in long queues of vehicles on the Pune-Mumbai route.

This incident affected thousands of drivers. Passenger vehicles, freight trucks, buses, and private cars were stuck for hours. Many passengers spent the night in their vehicles. There was a sense of anger among the passengers. Some used alternative routes, but those routes were also heavily crowded.

Finally, the process of removing the tanker began on Thursday morning. With the help of four large cranes, the gas tanker was carefully lifted and set aside. This process was carried out very cautiously, as even a small mistake could have led to a major accident. After removing the tanker, the road was inspected to ensure safety.

After this, traffic was gradually resumed. Initially, light vehicles were allowed, followed by heavy traffic. The administration has expressed that it may take some time for traffic to be fully restored. Meanwhile, an investigation into the accident is underway, and the tanker driver is being questioned. The police are investigating the exact cause of the accident. Drivers have expressed the need for stricter safety measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
