Tragedy at Wedding: 19-Year-Old Youth Dies After Drowning in Hotel Pool in Jalna
The deceased, Nagesh Rameshwar Shelke, a college student from Jafrabad in Jalna district, had arrived with his family to attend a relative’s wedding. Amidst the evening festivities, Nagesh decided to visit the hotel's swimming pool—a decision that would sadly prove fatal.
No Lifeguard, No Supervision at the Pool
According to eyewitnesses, Nagesh entered the pool around 8:00 PM, but the area was unattended, with no lifeguard or supervision in place. Moments later, he was found unconscious in the water.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, but was declared dead by doctors around 9:00 PM. The devastating news sent shockwaves through the wedding party, leaving family members, relatives, and guests in tears.
Police Investigation Underway
Taking serious note of the incident, CIDCO police have registered a case of accidental death and launched an investigation. Police officials confirmed that the exact cause of death will be determined only after the post-mortem report is received.
“We are examining whether the cause of death was drowning, a heart attack, or another medical condition. The post-mortem findings will guide further legal action,” said a police inspector at the scene.
Hotel Negligence Under Scrutiny
The incident has sparked outrage and public concern over safety measures in high-end hotels, especially during large functions. Many are questioning the lack of trained lifeguards, warning signs, and active monitoring of the pool area.
“This is a tragic loss that could have been avoided with basic safety arrangements. Hotels hosting public events must be held accountable for such negligence,” said a local social activist.
A Joyous Occasion Turned Tragic
For Nagesh’s family, what began as a celebration has now become a lifelong sorrow. As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of a young life that ended far too soon, and calls for urgent review and enforcement of safety norms at public venues.
