Aadhaar Face Authentication: UIDAI Introduces New Smart Feature for Identity Verification

UIDAI's new feature: Verify your identity with Aadhaar face authentication, now there is no need to carry a copy of Aadhaar card.
Published on

In a move to further streamline identity verification and enhance convenience for users, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a new face authentication feature in the Aadhaar system. With this smart upgrade, users will no longer need to carry a physical or digital copy of their Aadhaar card to verify their identity at hotels, government offices, or service centers.

Aadhaar Verification Gets Smarter

The newly launched Face Authentication Feature allows Aadhaar holders to verify their identity simply by scanning their face using a smartphone. This biometric verification technology uses advanced facial recognition and is being integrated into the Aadhaar ecosystem as part of UIDAI’s efforts to modernize and simplify digital authentication.

However, users must have a smartphone to avail of this facility, and the feature is accessible through the new Aadhaar mobile app. The app will guide users through the necessary steps to complete face-based verification.

Minister Shares Demonstration Video

Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw recently shared a video demonstration of the face authentication process, explaining how the technology works and how citizens can benefit from it.

To use this feature:

  1. Download and install the new Aadhaar app from the official source.

  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the face scan and verification process.

Currently in Beta Testing Phase

As of now, the face authentication feature is in its beta testing phase, which means it is still under development and testing. While UIDAI is working to ensure a seamless and secure rollout, general users may have to wait a little longer before the feature is fully accessible to all.

The Aadhaar face authentication system marks a major step forward in making identity verification contactless, secure, and user-friendly. Once fully launched, it is expected to reduce dependency on physical documents and enhance the ease of doing business and accessing public services.
