The Maharashtra government has ordered that the national song 'Vande Mataram' be sung completely and mandatorily in all schools from October 31 to November 7, 2025. This national song is from the novel Anandamath by Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay and this initiative is being undertaken on the occasion of its 150th anniversary. Instructions have been given to organize the singing of all verses of the song Vande Mataram and an exhibition explaining the history of the song in schools across the state from October 31 to November 7.

Additionally, instructions have been given to organize exhibitions in schools based on the history of the song. Instructions in this regard have been given by the Under Secretary of the School Education Department, A. R. Kulkarni, to the Education Commissioner through a circular. Against the backdrop of the 150th anniversary of the Vande Mataram song, a letter was issued by the Education Department on behalf of the Rajmata Jijabai Trust in Thane.

The creation of 'Vande Mataram', the national song of India composed by Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay, will complete 150 years on October 31, 2025, according to the date, which is Kartik Shuddha Navami, and on November 7, 2025, according to the Gregorian calendar used daily. Only the first two stanzas of the song 'Vande Mataram' are sung daily in the state's schools. However, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary, from October 31 to November 7, 2025, instructions have been mentioned in a letter given to the Education Commissioner to ensure the singing of the 'Complete Vande Mataram' in all schools of all mediums and managements in the state, as well as to display an exhibition explaining the history of the song 'Vande Mataram' at the entrance of schools.
