Veteran actress Bharti Gosavi passes away: The artist, who had a 58-year career in Marathi theatre, died of a heart attack in Pune.

Veteran actress Bharti Gosavi, who had a career of 58 years on stage and made her mark in Marathi plays, passed away at the age of 84. She passed away due to a heart attack in Pune. Her last rites will be performed at Vaikunth Crematorium this afternoon. She was the wife of theatre actor Bal Gosavi. And she was the sister-in-law of Raja Gosavi. She is survived by her daughter, sister-in-law and son-in-law.

Damayanti Kumthekar i.e. Bharati Gosavi of Maher was born on 22 June 1941. Her parents were fond of drama, so she developed a taste for drama. She made her debut on stage in 1958 with the play Saubhadra. Shankar Lohkare was her first guru. In her first play, she got the opportunity to work with Swarraj Chhota Gandharva.

Her roles in plays like Sushak Kallol and Manapaman were especially popular. Along with historical plays, she also did plays of various themes like folk drama, family drama, political drama, social drama. Bharti Gosavi was married to theatre actor Bal Gosavi. Since her brother-in-law Raja Gosavi was also active in theatre, Bharti's career in theatre continued uninterruptedly after her marriage. She worked with various theatre companies like Atre Theatre and Kala Vaibhav Chandralekha and maintained her acting dominance.

He was specially felicitated by the Akhil Bharatiya Natya Parishad and Bharat Natya Shodhan Mandal in 2016 for completing 58 years on stage at the age of 75. He was awarded the Chittaranjan Kolhatkar Memorial Award for the year 2015 by the Akhil Bharatiya Natya Parishad Pune branch. His roles in the plays Manapaman, Sundar Mee Hoona, Lagnachi Bedi, Vahto Hi Durvanchi Judi, Khattyal Kaljaat Ghusli, Kuriyat Sada Tinglam were particularly popular and ruled the hearts of the audience. He played more than 150 roles in his career.
