Mumbai: Voting for seven Rajya Sabha seats in Maharashtra will take place on March 16, and political movements have gained momentum for it. The current number of members in the Legislative Assembly is 286, and a quota of 36 MLA votes has been set for each Rajya Sabha seat. Therefore, all parties have started to meticulously calculate their numbers.

According to the current figures, the grand alliance has a total strength of 232 MLAs. Among them, the Bharatiya Janata Party has 136 MLAs after the demise of Karadile. To win three seats, BJP needs 108 votes, and they have 28 additional votes. Shiv Sena has 56 MLAs. After fulfilling the quota of 36 votes for one seat, they have 20 additional votes left. The Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar group) has 40 MLAs, and after fulfilling the requirement of 36 votes for one seat, they have four additional votes remaining.

On the other hand, the total strength of the Maha Vikas Aghadi is 52 MLAs. Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) has 20 MLAs and needs 16 additional votes for one seat. The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar group) has 10 MLAs and requires 26 additional votes. Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress has 16 MLAs and will need 20 additional votes for one seat.

According to the current numbers, the grand alliance is in a position to win four to five seats, while the possibility of the Mahavikas Aghadi winning one seat is being speculated. However, the final result will depend on the management of additional votes, the role of independent legislators, and cross-voting. This Rajya Sabha election is considered not only a test of numbers but also of political strength. Therefore, it is being speculated that the politics in the state may heat up further in the coming days.
