Mohan Bhagwat : 'Will retire when the Sangh says..', Mohan Bhagwat's statement..
The head of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Mohan Bhagwat, has expressed a clear and firm stance regarding his retirement. He stated in clear terms, “I will retire only when the Sangh tells me to, but even after retirement, I will continue the work of the Sangh.” He emphasized that the work of the Sangh is more important than age, position, or responsibility. Speaking at an event, Mohan Bhagwat said, “I am now 75 years old. So, I felt that I should stop. But the workers in the Sangh tell me, what is the problem? You are still able to walk and move around, you can work.” He also mentioned that this trust and insistence from the workers inspire him to continue working.
Mohan Bhagwat also clearly commented on the misconceptions in society regarding the position of Sarsanghchalak. “The Sarsanghchalak does not belong to any caste. He is only a Hindu,” he firmly stated. He clarified that it is wrong to fit the Sarsanghchalak into the framework of Brahmin, SC, ST, or any other caste. He said that positions in the Sangh are given based on work, values, and dedication, not on caste, class, or lineage. “There is no question of the Sarsanghchalak being a Brahmin or SC-ST. In the Sangh, a person's identity is based on their work,” said Bhagwat. He reiterated that the Sangh is inclusive and provides equal opportunities to every Hindu. He also indicated that the narrative of caste discrimination being spread in society is inconsistent with the philosophy of the Sangh.
Speaking about retirement, Bhagwat said that in the organization, retirement does not mean stopping work. “Even after retiring from a position, the work continues. The organization is a lifelong endeavor,” he said. He presented the important thought that no one becomes 'former' in the organization, only responsibilities change. Commenting on the working method of the organization, he said that appointments are not made in the organization, but workers are developed. Individuals are shaped based on values, discipline, and patriotism, and responsibilities naturally come in that journey. Mohan Bhagwat's statement has brought clarity to the discussions about the organization's leadership and retirement, and once again highlighted the message that the organization's role goes beyond caste and individuals.
