Doraemon, the beloved cartoon character, has captured the hearts of children around the world—not just for his futuristic gadgets, but also for his favorite snack: Dora cake. Also known as Dorayaki, this soft, sweet, pancake-like treat originated in Tokyo and has become a popular dessert across many countries.
While the traditional recipe includes eggs, making it unsuitable for some households, this article shares a simple and delicious eggless version that’s perfect for children. If your little ones often ask for something sweet and different, this Dora cake recipe will not only delight their taste buds but also bring smiles as soon as they hear its name.
1 cup all-purpose flour (maida)
1 cup milk
½ cup powdered sugar
½ cup chocolate
1 tbsp butter
1 to 1½ tsp milk powder
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
2–3 drops vanilla essence
Curd (as a binding substitute for eggs)
Dry Mixing: Start by sifting the flour. Add baking powder and baking soda directly through the sieve to ensure even distribution.
Wet Mixing: In a separate bowl, mix the powdered sugar, butter, curd, milk powder, and milk. Combine this mixture with the flour blend to create a smooth batter.
Flavoring: Add 2–3 drops of vanilla essence and mix well. Cover the batter and let it rest for 15–20 minutes.
Cooking: Heat a non-stick pan on low flame and lightly grease it with ghee or butter. Pour a ladleful of batter onto the pan. Keep the pancakes slightly thick (not as thin as regular dosas or crepes). Cover and cook for 1 to 1½ minutes until golden brown. Flip and cook the other side. Repeat the process for the remaining batter.
Melt the chocolate using a double boiler method. Add a small amount of butter to the melted chocolate and whisk until smooth.
Once the Dora cakes are cooled, spread the melted chocolate mixture on one pancake and place another on top, sandwiching the chocolate in between.
Serve warm or let them set slightly for a firmer filling.
Final Tip:
These Dora cakes can be enjoyed as an evening snack or packed in a lunchbox. They're eggless, easy to prepare, and a guaranteed hit with children!
