In the budget 2026 presented in Parliament by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, priority has been given to the education sector. Announcements ranging from traditional Ayurveda to modern digital skills have generated enthusiasm among students and education experts across the country. The government has planned long-term strategies to link education with employment and development, which will bring about radical changes in higher education in the coming years.
Special emphasis has been given to Ayurvedic education, and the announcement has been made to open three new Ayurvedic colleges across the country. Additionally, drug testing labs will be improved to check the quality of medicines. The government firmly believes that Ayurveda is not only India's traditional medical system but also a force that creates new opportunities for research and employment. These institutions will increase the number of trained doctors and researchers in Ayurveda and will gain global recognition for this field.
A major announcement has been made to develop five university townships in the field of higher education. These townships will have all arrangements under one roof for education, research, hostels, sports facilities, and startup hackers. This will not only limit students to studies but also promote new ideas and entrepreneurship. Additionally, five new universities will be established, which will increase opportunities for higher education in various states and benefit students from rural areas.
The pharmaceutical sector has also been given an important place in the budget, with three new pharma educational institutions to be established. These institutions will focus on drug manufacturing, research, and quality control, which will help make India a global pharma hub. An Indian Institute of Design (IIND) will be opened in Eastern India for design and creative education. This will provide high-quality design education locally to students in the region, eliminating the need for them to go to other states.
The government has announced the ABGC Content Creator Lab scheme for skill development in the digital age. In collaboration with IIT Mumbai, these labs will be set up in 15,000 secondary schools and 500 colleges across the country. Here, students will learn to create digital content, gaming, animation, and new technologies, which will directly provide them employment in the creative industry. Especially for girls, hostels will be built in higher education institutions in each district, providing a safe environment for their education.
According to education experts, these announcements will revolutionize the education sector and prepare the country's youth for global competition. These provisions in the budget will increase jobs and make India self-reliant in education.
