Chandrapur Rains: Heavy Downpour Cuts Off 12 Villages; Wainganga River Overflows

Continuous heavy rains have battered Chandrapur district for the past two days

Continuous heavy rains have battered Chandrapur district for the past two days, leading to severe flooding in several areas and cutting off communication with 12 villages, according to district officials.

The situation worsened following the opening of all 33 gates of the Gosekhurd Dam, resulting in the Wainganga River swelling beyond its banks. Overflowing drains and floodwaters have further disrupted road connectivity, isolating many remote communities.

Several talukas, including Jiwati, Korpana, Rajura, Gondpipri, Ballarpur, Bhadravati, Warora, and Pombhurna, have been witnessing relentless rainfall since Sunday. These areas have reported rising water levels, damaged roads, and blocked access routes.

The district administration has issued a high alert for villages located along the banks of the Wainganga River, urging residents to remain cautious and prepare for potential evacuations if conditions worsen.

Disaster response teams have been placed on standby, and efforts are underway to monitor water levels and restore connectivity to affected villages. Authorities are also assessing the extent of damage to crops and infrastructure caused by the ongoing deluge.
