The 91st important meeting of the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) Board of Directors was held at Sahyadri Guest House, Mumbai under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. In this meeting, plans were made to accelerate the development and expansion projects of various airports including Shirdi, Amravati, Latur, Karad, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli. In the backdrop of the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela, approval has been given for the expansion of Shirdi Airport, where two helipads and eight parking lots will be built.

Considering the growing need from an industrial point of view, there is a plan to expand the runway of Amravati airport and the Chief Minister directed to prepare a detailed plan in terms of revenue increase. It was stated that the development of Latur airport will also benefit neighboring districts like Beed and Dharashiv. Development will be accelerated to create night landing facilities at Karad airport.

A suggestion has been given to expand the runway for chartered aircraft at Chandrapur, and two to three alternative sites will be considered for Gadchiroli airport. Currently, air services are operating on 16 routes in the state under the Regional Air Connectivity Scheme, and eight more new proposals have been sent to the central government. On this occasion, the progress of airport projects at Ratnagiri, Akola, Kolhapur, Nanded, Dhule etc. was also reviewed. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and senior officers of the concerned departments were present in this meeting.
