Maharashtra Reports 114 New COVID-19 Cases in a Day
Even as much of the world has moved beyond the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Maharashtra is witnessing a concerning uptick in new cases. On Friday, the state reported 114 new COVID-19 infections and one related death within a 24-hour period, marking a sharp rise in the daily case count.
According to the state health department, the cumulative number of active COVID-19 cases has now climbed to 1,276. Officials have attributed the recent spike to the emergence of a new variant of the coronavirus, which is believed to be contributing to the increased transmissibility.
Health authorities across India have also observed a rise in infections in several other states, suggesting a broader trend that may warrant closer monitoring. Although the current numbers remain manageable, experts are urging citizens to remain vigilant.
“There is no need to panic, but people should continue to take basic precautions. If anyone experiences symptoms such as fever, cough, or fatigue, they should consult a doctor immediately,” said a spokesperson from the state health department.
Citizens are reminded to adhere to public health guidelines, including wearing masks in crowded places, maintaining hand hygiene, and avoiding unnecessary exposure, particularly in indoor and poorly ventilated environments.
