Just as the world began to breathe easy following years of pandemic disruptions, COVID-19 appears to be making a concerning comeback—this time with a fresh strain raising alarms. Countries such as Hong Kong and Singapore have already reported a rise in cases, and now signs of resurgence are being observed across India as well.

According to health authorities, the number of suspected COVID-19 cases nationwide has climbed to 257. In Maharashtra, 26 new infections were confirmed in the last 24 hours, pushing the total active case count to 132. Officials have also confirmed two fatalities, both from Mumbai, marking the first COVID-related deaths in the state during this recent surge.

Cities like Mumbai and Pune, which were major hotspots during earlier waves, are once again under close observation. While the situation remains under control, public health officials are closely monitoring developments given the new mutated strain of the coronavirus believed to be driving the spike in infections.

Authorities have urged citizens not to panic, but to remain vigilant and follow standard health precautions. Individuals exhibiting symptoms such as fever, cough, or fatigue are advised to consult a doctor immediately and undergo testing if necessary.

Health experts reiterate the importance of mask usage in crowded places, maintaining hand hygiene, and vaccination updates, especially for senior citizens and individuals with underlying health conditions.
