Despite much of the world having moved past the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic, India is witnessing a concerning resurgence in coronavirus infections. A sudden spike in cases has been reported, with 21 deaths recorded in the past two days alone.

According to official data, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the country has risen to 3,783. Kerala remains the worst-affected state, with over 1,400 active cases. Since January, the total number of COVID-related deaths has reached 28, with 21 of those reported in just the last 48 hours.

Health authorities report that 9,592 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Kerala since January. Maharashtra and Delhi are also witnessing a rise in cases, with 485 and 436 active patients respectively. Maharashtra and Kerala have each reported 7 COVID-19-related deaths, the highest among the states.

There is growing concern over the emergence of a new variant of the coronavirus, which is believed to be contributing to the spike in cases. The central and state governments are urging citizens to remain vigilant, follow precautionary measures, and seek medical advice if they experience symptoms.
