Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has stated that a final decision on the trilingual formula will be taken only after consulting all concerned stakeholders, including literary figures, language experts, political leaders, and educationists.

This assurance came following a high-level meeting held at the Chief Minister's official residence, 'Varsha', to deliberate on the implementation and implications of the trilingual policy.

Key Ministers and Officials Present

The meeting was attended by:

  • Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde

  • School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse

  • Minister of State Dr. Pankaj Bhoyar

  • Senior officials from the School Education Department, including:

    • Chief Minister’s Secretary Dr. Shrikar Pardeshi

    • Additional Chief Secretary to the Deputy CM Asim Kumar Gupta

    • Principal Secretary, School Education Ranjit Singh Deol

    • Education Commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh

    • Director, Council of Educational Research Rahul Rekhawar

The leaders held in-depth discussions on how to frame a balanced and inclusive policy that accounts for the linguistic and regional diversity of the state.

A consensus was reached that the issue demands a coherent and comprehensive presentation to all stakeholders. The aim is to ensure that any changes made under the National Education Policy (NEP), including the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) system, do not disadvantage Marathi-speaking students.

To address these concerns, the government plans to organize special consultations with Marathi language scholars, writers, and academic experts. This initiative will also serve to clarify and streamline the framework of the trilingual approach in Maharashtra's educational institutions.

School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the next phase of consultations. The government intends to engage with all concerned parties to arrive at a well-informed and culturally sensitive policy decision.
