Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed confidence that Mumbai alone holds the potential to generate a $1.5 trillion economy, underscoring the city's role in shaping India's economic future. He also highlighted that the upcoming Vadhavan Port, once completed, will be three times larger than the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and is poised to rank among the top ten ports globally.

Fadnavis was speaking during an interactive session with 14 Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officers from the 2013–14 batch at the Sahyadri Guest House. Also present were Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Vikas Kharge, Protocol Department Additional Chief Secretary Seema Vyas, and Secretary Dr. Shrikar Pardeshi.

Outlining his vision for Mumbai's development, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for integrated infrastructure—including ports, roads, and education hubs—to support economic growth. He referred to the Coastal Road Project and the Atal Setu, which is helping shape the emerging "Third Mumbai" as key transformational initiatives.

Fadnavis also announced plans to establish an ‘Educity’ over 200 acres, which will host 12 leading universities and accommodate around 100,000 students. In addition, a 300-acre ‘Innovation City’ and a 1,000-acre ‘Knowledge City’ are also on the anvil, aiming to foster research, innovation, and advanced learning.

The session also featured discussions on Maharashtra’s foreign policy alignment, global investment opportunities, and the state’s role in international collaborations.

"The next five years will witness a complete transformation in Mumbai’s landscape," said Fadnavis, reiterating his commitment to positioning the city as a global economic powerhouse
