Decision for E-Verification by the Election Commission for Corrections
(Election Commission) The Election Commission has implemented a new system to prevent misuse in the voter list. Now, while applying for voter registration, deletion, or correction, e-verification will be required using a mobile number linked with Aadhaar. The 'e-sign' feature has been added to the commission's website and mobile app, and through this process, the applicant's identity will be ensured.
Last week, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi alleged irregularities in the process of deleting names from voter lists. Particularly after it was revealed that a large number of fake applications were filed in the Aland constituency of Karnataka, the commission decided to make immediate corrections.
Previously, applicants could link their mobile number with the voter ID to apply, but there was no verification of whether the information was correct. Now, the e-sign requirement has been made mandatory when filling out Form 6 (new registration), Form 7 (objection regarding inclusion or exclusion of name), and Form 8 (registration correction).
