CM Devendra Fadnavis: Every Citizen in Maharashtra Will Get a Home; ₹80,000 Crore Investment in Rural Areas
In a major announcement aimed at rural development, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared that every citizen in the state will be provided with a proper home under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). He revealed that the central government has approved an initial investment of ₹30,000 crore to accelerate housing construction in rural areas, with a total projected investment of ₹80,000 crore.
Speaking at the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) Beneficiary Meet and Maha Awas Abhiyan State-Level Award Distribution Program, held at the Shri Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, Pune, the Chief Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to making Maharashtra the first state in the country to ensure housing for all.
The event was organized by the Housing Department and saw the presence of several prominent dignitaries, including Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Horticulture and Employment Guarantee Scheme Minister Bharat Gogavale, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Jaykumar Gore, Minister of State Yogesh Kadam, and Principal Secretary of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department Eknath Davale. Also present were Divisional Commissioner Kavita Dwivedi, Joint Secretary of the Union Ministry of Rural Development Gaya Prasad, Rajaram Dighe, and Zilla Parishad CEO Gajanan Patil.
Fadnavis noted that the 2011 baseline survey identified 30 lakh homeless individuals in Maharashtra. In response, the first phase of PMAY-G targeted the construction of 20 lakh houses. With continued efforts and financial backing from the Centre, the state aims to meet the complete target of 30 lakh homes.
“The government will ensure that every name listed in the survey receives the rightful home,” Fadnavis assured the audience, adding that the initiative will not only provide shelter but also uplift the standard of living in rural areas and bolster the rural economy.
