Amravati/Achalpur: In a striking and cinematic form of protest reminiscent of the iconic film Sholay, Finlay Mill employees in Achalpur have climbed a 250-foot-high chimney amid heavy rainfall, demanding payment of their long-pending salaries. The protest has entered its 28th hour, with no resolution yet in sight.

Workers Protest in Extreme Conditions

Workers Vikesh Ukde and Manoj Suryavanshi are staging the dramatic protest by perching atop the towering chimney despite adverse weather conditions. Meanwhile, several other employees are demonstrating by sitting at the base of the chimney, showing solidarity and reinforcing the seriousness of their demand.

Months of Unpaid Wages Fuel Unrest

The protest has been sparked by months of unpaid salaries, leaving workers struggling to make ends meet. The demonstrators have declared that they will not end the protest until their dues are cleared. This unconventional protest has drawn attention not just from locals but also from labor unions and rights activists across the region.

The protesting workers are resolute in their stand, stating that repeated appeals to the mill management and local administration have yielded no results.

“We have waited long enough. Now, we will not descend until our rightful dues are paid,” said a protester from the site.
