He took his last breath at his residence 'Devghar' in Latur around six-thirty in the morning, having served as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Additionally, he held various important ministerial positions in the central government, including the Union Home Minister. Shivraj Patil Chakurkar was a 7-term MP from Latur.

In 1980, he was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time from the Latur constituency. Shivraj Patil Chakurkar remained a loyal Congress member throughout his life. He had retired from politics in recent years. Today, his last rites will be performed in Latur.
