Gadchiroli Floods: 20 Roads Closed, Villages on Alert Amid Heavy Rains
Continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days has severely impacted normal life in Gadchiroli district, prompting the closure of 20 major roads and placing several riverbank villages on high alert due to the risk of flooding.
The situation worsened following the release of large volumes of water from the Gosekhurd Dam, which has caused multiple rivers in the region to overflow. On the Gadchiroli-Nagpur highway, two passenger buses became stranded after their engines failed due to rising water levels on the road.
Fortunately, both buses were successfully towed out of the flooded area, and all passengers were safely relocated. The Gram Panchayat of a nearby village provided shelter and food for the stranded travelers, ensuring their immediate needs were met.
With rivers breaching their banks and continued rainfall predicted, the district administration has issued alerts to all villages located near rivers, urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and disaster response teams have been placed on standby. Traffic movement across 20 routes has been suspended as a precaution, and alternative routes are being arranged where possible.
