(Local body Elections) All political parties are preparing for the upcoming elections. Meanwhile, a hearing was held regarding the elections of local self-government bodies. The state government's report states that the 50% reservation limit has been exceeded in 44 municipalities, 11 town councils, 20 district councils, and the two municipal corporations of Nagpur and Chandrapur in the state.
According to the Supreme Court's directive, orders have been issued to complete the election process for all local self-government bodies in the state by January 31, 2026. In this context, a hearing was held today. The hearing took place before the bench of Chief Justice Suryakant and Justice Joymala Bagchi.
The next hearing of this case is now scheduled for Friday. Along with this, the Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission to submit a list of seats that have exceeded the 50 percent limit. As a result, with the hearing being delayed, the uncertainty over the elections of local self-government bodies continues.
