Heavy rainfall continues to lash Pune city and its surrounding areas, with the Khadakwasla region witnessing particularly intense showers. As a result, water levels in several reservoirs across the district have risen significantly, prompting the administration to issue alerts for citizens residing near riverbanks.

According to official data, the Khadakwasla Dam has currently accumulated 5.77 TMC (billion cubic feet) of water, amounting to approximately 19.81% of its total storage capacity. This is a notable increase compared to the same period last year, with storage levels two TMC higher.

In view of the continued rainfall, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain warning for the next 48 hours, urging authorities and residents to remain vigilant.

Owing to the rising reservoir levels, authorities have announced the imminent release of 2,000 cusecs of water from the spillway of the Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha River. The district administration has appealed to residents living along the riverbanks to remain on high alert.

Instructions have been issued to move vehicles and livestock away from the riverbanks and relocate them to safer areas. Citizens, especially those living in apartments along the Mula-Mutha river, have been advised to exercise caution. Special advisories have also been issued regarding safe crossing of bridges, as water flow may intensify in the coming hours.
