High Court Orders ₹6 Lakh Compensation for Deaths Caused by Potholes

(High Court on Potholes Deaths) There have been many incidents where people have lost their lives due to potholes on the roads. In this context, the Bombay High Court has taken note and issued important orders. After a death caused by falling into a pothole, compensation of 6 lakh rupees should be given to their heirs.

Additionally, the bench of the Bombay High Court has stated that compensation ranging from 50 thousand to 2.5 lakh rupees will be given to citizens injured in such accidents. The court has also directed that this compensation amount should be distributed within two months. If the compensation is given after six to eight weeks, government institutions will be charged annual interest at a rate of nine percent.

Despite repeated orders in this regard, it has been observed that they are not being implemented. If the road work is found to be incomplete and of poor quality, strict disciplinary and punitive action will be taken against the contractors and officials. If potholes are found, they will be repaired within 48 hours. If not done, action will be taken against the responsible officials and contractors, as clarified by the court.
