Maharashtra Halts Allopathy Practice for Homeopathy Doctors

Homeopathy doctors can no longer practice allopathy treatments.

(Homeopathic Doctor) Homeopathy doctors can no longer practice allopathy treatments. Due to strong opposition from 'IMA', the decision taken by the medical education and drug department on June 30 has been withdrawn. As a result, the allopathy registration of homeopathy doctors has been cancelled, and unauthorized permission for homeopathy doctors to prescribe allopathy medicines has been denied.

The state government should withdraw the new decision regarding homeopathy doctors, for which allopathy doctor organizations had expressed strong opposition. Initially, BHMS doctors who completed the CCMP (Certificate Course in Modern Pharmacology) were allowed to register with MMC and practice some degree of allopathy treatment. However, the IMA and other medical organizations showed serious opposition. They argued that this could be very harmful from the perspective of patient safety. There is a significant difference in education between MBBS and CCMP, so if any patient is prescribed allopathy medicine by a homeopathy doctor, it could pose a serious risk.

Similarly, the existence of allopathy doctors could also be at risk. Considering this potential threat and due to the intervention of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Maharashtra Medical Council has withdrawn this decision and temporarily halted the CCMMP registration that was to start from July 15. As a result, homeopathy doctors will not be able to officially prescribe allopathy medicines to patients. If they do so, legal action may be taken against them.
