Railway Ticket Price Hike: Long-Distance Travel to Get Costlier from July 1

Passengers planning long-distance train travel should prepare for a fare hike, as the Indian Railways has announced an increase in ticket prices starting July 1, 2025. The hike will affect both non-AC and AC long-distance trains, making rail journeys more expensive.

Under the new fare revision:

  • Non-AC mail and express trains will see a hike of 1 paise per kilometer.

  • AC class tickets will become costlier by 2 paise per kilometer.

However, there is no increase in fares for second class travel up to 500 km. For journeys exceeding 500 km in second class, passengers will now have to pay an additional 0.50 paise per kilometer.

Importantly, the fare hike is limited to long-distance and AC train services. There has been no change in the ticket prices for suburban railway services or monthly season passes, offering some relief to daily commuters.

The revised fare structure will be officially implemented from July 1, and tickets booked for travel on or after this date will reflect the new pricing.

This move is expected to help the Railways manage rising operational costs, though it may burden frequent long-distance travelers.
