Pune Indrayani River Bridge Collapse: District Magistrate Orders Audit and Demolition of Unsafe Bridges
A tragic incident unfolded in Kundmala, Maval taluka, after a bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed, resulting in the deaths of four people and injuries to 51 others. In the wake of this devastating accident, the Pune District Administration has announced urgent measures to prevent such disasters in the future.
Responding swiftly to the tragedy, District Collector Jitendra Guddi has issued directives for the demolition of structurally unsafe small bridges across villages and fort areas in the district. The administration also plans to construct new, safer bridges to ensure uninterrupted and secure connectivity between these locations.
In addition, the Collector has ordered all government departments to submit bridge safety audit reports immediately. These audits, conducted by various agencies, will be reviewed to identify weak or deteriorating infrastructure that may pose a risk to public safety.
This decision reflects the administration's intent to take preventive action following the Indrayani River bridge collapse, which has raised serious questions about the structural integrity of small bridges across rural and hilly regions in Pune district.
