The water storage of Jayakwadi Dam, considered the lifeline of Marathwada, has reached 83 percent by Sunday evening. Last year during the same period, the dam had only 5 percent storage, but this year, due to heavy rainfall, there has been a significant inflow of water.

On Sunday evening at six o'clock, water was flowing into the Nath Sagar reservoir of Jayakwadi Dam at a speed of 18,965 cusecs. This large inflow is due to the continuous rain occurring in the upper part of the dam and at the source.

Currently, water is being discharged at a speed of 1,100 cusecs from the right canal of the dam, while no water is being released from the left canal. Executive Engineer of Jayakwadi Dam, Mangesh Shelar, stated that the intensity of rain in the surrounding area of the dam was previously less. Therefore, water discharge was necessary for Kharif crops. However, now that the rain has intensified, the discharge from the left canal has been stopped as per the farmers' demand.

In the coming days, the release of water from the dam will be determined based on the rainfall situation and the amount of incoming water. The discharge will be planned daily, taking into account the rainfall and water inflow, Shelare clarified.

Meanwhile, not only Jayakwadi but also ten other major water projects in Marathwada have seen a significant increase in storage. By Sunday morning, an average of 68 percent live storage was recorded in these 11 projects. Last year, during the same period, this storage was only 18 percent. Therefore, the water storage situation in Marathwada is satisfactory this year.

Due to the increase in reservoir storage, relief has been created for farmers, and the necessary water supply for Kharif crops can be provided. This is likely to increase production, and the administration has stated that proper water management and planning will be needed in the coming period.
