(Justice Surya Kant) is taking the oath today as the 53rd Chief Justice of the country. Justice Surya Kant's appointment as Chief Justice was announced by President Droupadi Murmu on October 30.

Justice Suryakant will have a 15-month tenure as Chief Justice. He will retire on February 9, 2027. He will serve as Chief Justice for 15 months. After assuming the role of Chief Justice, his focus will be on reducing the number of pending cases in the country.

Justice Suryakant stated that with 50 million cases pending across the country, this is the biggest challenge. Currently, he is also serving as the Chairman of the Supreme Court's Legal Services Committee.
