Kolhapur's Panchganga River Reaches 20 Feet, Submerging Ghat-Area Temples
Continuous rainfall across the state has led to rising water levels in major rivers, with the Panchganga River in Kolhapur swelling to 20 feet and 3 inches. As a result, several temples located in the ghat area have been submerged, causing concern among local residents and devotees.
Heavy Rain Triggers Flooding Concerns
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the state today, issuing a yellow alert due to the possibility of rain accompanied by lightning. While rainfall in Kolhapur district has slightly eased over the past 24 hours, rivers continue to flow with strong currents, posing a threat to low-lying areas.
Dams Overflowing, Traffic Disrupted
A total of 13 dams, including Rajaram, Ichalkaranji, and Rui, have seen rising water levels, with some areas now submerged. The inundation has disrupted road connectivity, affecting daily life and transport in affected regions. Meanwhile, Radhanagari Dam has reached 50 percent of its storage capacity, signaling the need for close monitoring.
