Ladki Bahin Yojana : 2,652 Women Government Employees Found Benefiting Illegally, Probe Reveals
A recent investigation has uncovered that 2,652 women government employees have illegally availed benefits under the Ladki Bahin Yojana, despite clear government guidelines prohibiting them from doing so. The revelation has sparked concerns about oversight and enforcement mechanisms related to welfare schemes in Maharashtra.
The probe was launched after complaints surfaced alleging that several women employed in government services were unlawfully receiving the scheme's financial benefits. The Department of Information and Technology conducted a detailed verification using UID data of 1,60,559 government employees, both male and female.
The findings revealed that these 2,652 women beneficiaries, all state government employees, received ₹1,500 per month under the scheme between August 2024 and April 2025, amounting to a total financial outlay of approximately ₹3.58 crore.
According to the official government resolution, government employees are ineligible to apply for or receive assistance under the Ladki Bahin Yojana. Despite this, the identified individuals allegedly submitted applications and availed benefits in violation of the policy.
In light of the findings, the government is preparing to expand the audit. It is reported that an additional six lakh employee records will soon be examined to identify other potential violations.
Another significant revelation from the investigation is that 8.85 lakh women have simultaneously availed benefits from both the 'Namo Shetkari Yojana' and the 'Ladki Bahin Yojana', raising questions about possible overlaps and eligibility issues across welfare schemes.
