Ladki Bahin Yojana: Before the election ₹1500 was deposited in the account of the sisters for December when will the January installment arrive?
Scroll down to read the news in brief...
The installment of 1,500 rupees for the month of December has started being deposited into the accounts of beneficiaries of the Maharashtra government's beloved sister scheme. This good news was given to women on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. However, there is still uncertainty about when the January installment will arrive. Initially, it was announced by the ministers that both the December and January installments would be deposited together in January. But now, as only the December installment has been deposited, disappointment has spread among the beneficiary women.
Against the backdrop of the beloved sister scheme, the Congress had written to the State Election Commission inquiring about giving two installments together. The Election Commission took a clear stance stating that 'Agnim' money should not be given to women during the election period, otherwise it would lead to political misuse. Accordingly, only the December installment has been deposited currently. The January installment is likely to be deposited after the municipal elections (after January 17). Since the district council and panchayat committee elections (February 5) are coming up, money might come before that too, but no official announcement has been made yet.
Additionally, it has now become mandatory to perform KYC (Know Your Customer) in the beloved sister scheme. Women who have not completed KYC will not receive further installments. According to government information, about 3 million women have not yet completed KYC. From the new financial year (from April 2026), those who have not done KYC will not receive the benefits of the scheme. This has created a risk for millions of women. The government has urged women to complete KYC immediately, and an easy process is available through the online portal.
Although the Ladki Behen scheme has proven important for millions of women in Maharashtra, the election period is causing delays in installments. It is expected that funds will be deposited after the municipal elections and before the district council elections. While the scheme claims to empower women, conditions like KYC may affect the number of beneficiaries. Officials have informed that clarity will come soon from the government.
The December installment of ₹1500 was deposited into the beneficiaries' accounts under the Ladki Behen scheme.
The January installment has been halted due to the municipal elections.
Beneficiary women must complete KYC; otherwise, future installments will not be provided.
Installments are likely to be deposited before the district council and panchayat committee elections.
