Following a strong onset in May, the monsoon continues to remain active across Maharashtra. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for several regions as rainfall intensity is expected to increase again from June 12, accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms in many districts.

Orange and Yellow Alerts Across the State

The IMD has forecast heavy rain for parts of South Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha, prompting an orange alert in these regions. A yellow alert has been issued for the remaining districts across the state, indicating moderate rainfall and the possibility of localised disruptions.

Kolhapur, Sangli on Orange Alert

  • Kolhapur is expected to receive heavy rainfall with thundershowers in the next 24 hours. Wind speeds may reach 40 to 50 km/h, leading to the issuance of an orange alert for the district.

  • In Sangli, similar weather conditions have been predicted. Heavy rain combined with gale-force winds is expected within 24 hours, and an orange alert has been sounded due to the potential for thunderstorms.

Solapur Sees Temperature Dip, Rain Forecast

  • Solapur is forecast to experience a temperature drop, with maximum temperatures falling to around 28°C. Due to the likelihood of heavy rain, a yellow alert has been issued.

Pune Weather: Light Rain, Mild Temperatures

In Pune, the weather remains relatively stable. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 30.7°C in the past 24 hours. The IMD has forecast light rain today, with temperatures expected to hover around 30°C. While no alert has been issued for Pune, the city is likely to see overcast skies and brief showers.

The IMD has indicated that the monsoon is expected to advance further into central and eastern India by Saturday, following which rainfall activity in Maharashtra is also projected to intensify. This could bring relief to farmers while also raising concerns about potential flooding in vulnerable areas.
