As the threat of cyber crimes is increasing in Maharashtra, the government has taken strict measures. In the four months from July 2025 to October 2025, 145 cyber crime arrests have been recorded in the state, revealing a fraud of 12.961 crore rupees. Since there are multiple accused in one crime, the investigation is becoming more complex, as stated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in a written reply in the assembly. Against this backdrop, a special campaign is being conducted for cyber security, and modern training is being provided to the police administration.

Under the guidance of the Maharashtra Cyber Office, 26 expert advisors have provided online training on forensic tools to 1000 police officers. Cyber labs in 50 districts of the state have been equipped for crime investigation by the nodal cyber police station. This will enable rapid analysis of digital evidence and quick arrest of the accused. Additionally, awareness about cyber fraud is being raised through screens at 34 railway stations. Passengers are guided to stay cautious of online fraud, which will increase awareness among the general public.

While answering a question in the assembly, Chief Minister Fadnavis clarified that there is a multi-pronged strategy against cyber crimes. Although online transactions have increased due to the Digital India campaign, crimes like phishing, OTP fraud, and investment scams are rampant. The government has strengthened the cyber cell and provided helplines to citizens. Experts believe that continuous training and awareness can reduce cyber crimes by 30 percent. However, private sector companies have also been urged to take responsibility. If this campaign is successful, Maharashtra will become a model state for cyber security.

Summary
  • 145 cyber arrest cases recorded in the state in four months

  • Loss of 129.61 crore rupees revealed in cyber fraud

  • Modern forensic training for police and cyber labs
