The results of the district council and panchayat committee elections, considered a 'mini-assembly' in Maharashtra politics, were announced today (February 9). In this contest held for 12 district councils and 125 panchayat committees in the state, the Bharatiya Janata Party maintained the first position, while the Shiv Sena faction of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde crossed the 100-seat mark. By 2 PM, trends and results for 564 out of a total of 731 district council seats had emerged, with the grand alliance taking a clear lead.

BJP achieved the most success with 198 seats, while the Shinde faction got 124 and Ajit Pawar's NCP got 115 seats. In contrast, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) faced a complete defeat. Congress got only 44, Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena got 36, and Sharad Pawar's NCP got only 13 seats. In Konkan, the grand alliance had a clear victory, where 27 seats were elected unopposed. In Sindhudurg, BJP won all the seats in the Vaibhavwadi Panchayat Samiti and seven members were elected unopposed in the Zilla Parishad.

Shock to veterans, intense contests

In Parbhani district, four out of five members of former minister Suresh Warpudkar's family were defeated, which is being seen as a 'rejection of dynastic politics'. In the Dhoki Panchayat Samiti of Dharashiv, the Uddhav faction defeated the BJP by one vote. In Kolhapur, the Congress won 12 seats, while in Solapur, Ram Satpute's wife, Sanskruti Satpute, emerged victorious. In Gaganbawda, Satej Patil's dominance remained intact.

NCP's Sole Power in Pune District

Out of 73 seats in the Pune District Council, Ajit Pawar's faction of the NCP won 39 seats, securing a majority. BJP had to be content with only 8 seats, which is being discussed as a political setback in Pune. The remaining seats were won by independents and smaller parties. These results clearly indicate the trend for the upcoming assembly elections, with the grand alliance taking the lead.

Summary

• BJP won the most 198 seats in Maharashtra ZP elections
• Decline or defeat for grand alliance parties in various districts
• NCP secured a majority in Pune ZP, BJP only 8 seats
• Results are important for upcoming assembly elections and political trends
