Maharashtra's Energy Asset! Power generation to resume from the first and second phases of Koyna Dam from 'this' date
Repair of the water leakage in the tunnel at Pophali under the Koyna Hydroelectric Project is currently progressing rapidly. The work is expected to be completed by February 18. After the repair is completed, power generation will resume from the first and second phases of the project. This will increase production by approximately 600 megawatts and also reduce water scarcity in the Pophali area.
For the past few months, these two phases had to be closed due to leakage in the tunnel. As a result, electricity generation decreased and water pressure dropped in some villages. Water supply to areas like Pofali, Shirgaon, Talsar Munde, and Kondphansavane is based on gravity; however, due to reduced water storage, citizens faced difficulties.
The Water Resources Department had given instructions regarding alternative measures; however, the situation remained challenging until the repairs were completed. Now the work is in the final stage and officials have informed that electricity and water supply will be restored soon.
