The statues of the Vitthal temple, a place of faith for millions of devotees across the country, and the family deities outside, which have been damaged over hundreds of years, will be replaced in the new year. Currently, the preservation and conservation work of the Vitthal temple is underway, and 37 damaged statues out of the 24 family deities inside the temple and 28 family deities outside will be replaced, according to the temple committee's executive officer, Rajendra Shelke.
After the inspection of the conservation and preservation work by the temple committee's co-chairman Gahininath Maharaj Ausekar, officials from the archaeology department, and the concerned architecture, the reality of the broken idols came to light a few days ago. According to Hindu scriptures, since broken idols are not kept for worship in any temple, these centuries-old idols will now need to be replaced, as stated by the temple committee's co-chairman Gahininath Maharaj Ausekar.
Avasekar stated that when the coating on these ancient idols was removed, it was revealed that the idols were damaged. He mentioned that the work of making the idols was completed. After installing these new idols, the ancient broken idols from hundreds of years ago will be preserved in the form of a museum within the temple, as stated by Gahininath Maharaj Ausekar.
