Monorail: Overloaded Again; 50 Passengers Offloaded
An obstacle has once again arisen in the monorail service. On August 21, around nine in the morning, the monorail stopped for about fifteen minutes at Acharya Atre Nagar station. The monorail stopped because there were more passengers than capacity. Consequently, 50 passengers were immediately offloaded, and the monorail was resumed.
Earlier on August 19, passengers had a similar experience on the monorail. Due to heavy rain, the monorail was shut down on Tuesday, disrupting service for the entire day. At that time, the monorail tilted to one side because there were more passengers than expected. Finally, the fire brigade had to rescue the trapped passengers.
All these incidents have been taken seriously by the MMRDA, and the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Company (MMMOCL), which operates the monorail, has been ordered to submit a detailed report within three days. In a meeting with the security department, the preliminary inquiry also revealed that 'overloading' was the main reason.
Typically, the capacity of the monorail is 520 passengers, but in recent incidents, this number had exceeded 580. Experts conclude that the excess weight causes power supply interruptions, preventing the train from moving forward. The administration has also clarified the need for strict measures in the future for passenger safety.
