Heavy rains pounded Mumbai and its suburbs overnight, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a fresh alert for continued intense rainfall over the next two to three hours. The city, which had seen a brief lull in monsoon activity, woke up to relentless downpours, thunder, and gusty winds.

According to the IMD, several districts across Maharashtra are expected to experience heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. After a short dry spell that brought discomfort due to rising temperatures, rains have resumed with increased intensity, offering much-needed relief from the heat but also raising concerns about waterlogging and disruptions.

Lightning and thunder have accompanied the renewed rainfall, particularly in Mumbai and the Konkan region. Pune and other parts of western Maharashtra have also reported moderate to heavy showers. The IMD has warned that the current spell is likely to continue, especially affecting Mumbai's southern parts which have recorded the highest rainfall since midnight.
