Purchase of 2,856 air-conditioned Vande Metro coaches
E-tender announced for long-term maintenance
(Mumbai Local) Mumbai will now get an air-conditioned 18-coach local. An e-tender has been announced by the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation for the purchase and long-term maintenance of 2,856 air-conditioned Vande Metro (suburban) coaches.
It is reported that a tender has been issued on September 6, 2025, under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project Phase Three and Three A. For this, state-of-the-art maintenance depots will be developed at Bhivpuri on the Central Railway and Vangaon on the Western Railway. Additionally, 15-coach local services and, as needed, 18-coach locals will be included. It is reported that these trains will be configured with 12, 15, and 18 coaches, which will significantly increase passenger capacity, convenience, and safety.
