(Maharashtra Local Body Election) Some elections for municipal councils and municipal panchayats have been postponed. Voting for those elections will take place on December 20, and counting will be on December 21, as stated by the Nagpur Bench.

However, as these elections were suddenly postponed, this result was challenged in the Supreme Court by Rajkiran Barve and MIM's regional vice president Mohammad Yusuf Punjani. They immediately demanded counting of votes on this and an urgent hearing was held today before a two-member bench of Chief Justice Suryakant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi.

It has now been informed by the Supreme Court that the results of the Nagar Panchayat and Nagar Parishad will be announced on December 21. The court has clearly refused to conduct the counting before the 21st. Along with this, the court has informed that it is mandatory for the Election Commission to complete the elections of all municipalities, Nagar Panchayats, municipal corporations, and other local self-government bodies in the state by January 31, 2026.

Summary

  • Municipal council, municipal council result on December 21

  • Counting on December 21 - Supreme Court

  • Supreme Court's seal on Nagpur bench's decision
