In Brief
Onions available at 24 rupees per kg in Mumbai
Central Government's Discount Scheme
Sale through mobile vehicles
Onion prices are seen to be rising. Against this backdrop of inflation, the central government has now started an onion sale scheme. In this, onions will be made available to consumers at prices lower than the market rate by moving around various parts of Mumbai.
The central government has launched a scheme to sell onions at 24 rupees per kilogram in Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. Approximately 25 tons of onions will be sold in these cities from the 'buffer stock' through cooperative institutions like 'NCCF', 'NAFED', and Central Warehouse. Union Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, Pralhad Joshi, flagged off the mobile vehicle for sale in Delhi.
Additionally, onions will be sold in a similar manner in other cities as well. This scheme was also implemented last year. Senior officials of 'NCCF' have expressed the expectation that approximately ten tons will be sold daily through this initiative. Therefore, the sale of onions at discounted prices will now begin in Mumbai through mobile vehicles.
