(Nashik) Large-scale preparations are underway for the Kumbh Mela to be held in Nashik in 2027. Many sages and saints from across the country come for this Kumbh Mela, and a Sadhu Gram city is established in Tapovan for their accommodation. In this Kumbh Mela, Sadhu Gram will be set up on 1150 acres in the Tapovan area for the sages and saints to stay. The movement by environmentalists and tree lovers against the ongoing deforestation in the Sadhu Gram area of Tapovan is intensifying day by day.

A wave of anger has erupted among local citizens and environmentalists. In Nashik, along with environmentalists, celebrities are also seen opposing this tree cutting. Against this backdrop, the government's and municipal corporation's decision to cut down 1800 trees in Tapovan for setting up Sadhu Gram during the upcoming Kumbh Mela in Nashik has been challenged in the High Court. Taking note of the petition, the court has scheduled a hearing on it today.

A public interest litigation has been filed by Nashik-based Madhukar Jagtap through advocates Payal Vardhan and Omkar Wable, requesting that the respondents be restrained from cutting 1800 trees until the petition is adjudicated, a stay be granted on the order to cut trees, and orders be issued to find an alternative site for the establishment of Sadhugram, as demanded by the petitioners.
