The Pune court has sentenced two accused of causing disturbance in public places after drinking alcohol to community service instead of imprisonment. Under Section 355 of the Indian Penal Code, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Vikramsingh Bhandari has ordered them to perform community service for a total of four days, three hours each day.

This punishment was previously given to juvenile offenders, but now these adult offenders have also been sentenced to community service. According to this order, the accused will have to work at the Shivajinagar police station for three hours or be present with the traffic police.

In this case, a complaint was filed with the police that the accused had caused a disturbance by drinking alcohol in a public place. Considering the seriousness of these incidents, the court has adopted this community service plan for the rehabilitation of the offenders while sentencing them. This will give both of them an opportunity to do useful work for society instead of imprisonment, and it is expected that they take responsibility for their actions. The court has set this punishment as an example for the two accused.

Summary
  • Community service punishment instead of jail for those causing a ruckus in public places after drinking alcohol.

  • Accused ordered to work at Shivajinagar police station for three hours daily.

  • Court emphasizes rehabilitation and community service.

  • Unique verdict given by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate under IPC 355.
