Pune Rain Alert; Some areas waterlogged, Yellow alert for the next 72 hours
Pune has been grappling with relentless rainfall for the past three days, and Friday marked a particularly intense spell. Heavy showers inundated several parts of the city, causing waterlogging, traffic congestion, and widespread inconvenience to commuters.
According to reports, torrential rain lashed the city between 11 AM and 3 PM on Friday. Lohegaon recorded the highest rainfall at 39.8 mm, while other areas such as Shivajinagar, Pashan, Aundh, Baner, Nagar Road, Khadakwasla, and Koregaon Park also experienced significant downpours. In contrast, southern localities like Katraj, Padmavati, and Parvati Paitha received relatively lighter rainfall.
Traffic Disruptions and Flooded Roads
Due to the sudden downpour, several low-lying areas, especially around Shivaji Road, experienced waterlogging. As a result, people commuting to workplaces and traveling to the railway station encountered severe delays and disruptions. The rain also caused traffic jams on key city roads, compounding the woes of motorists.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has advised citizens to exercise caution and avoid venturing out unless necessary. With the monsoon having officially arrived in the city on May 26, its intensity appears to be holding strong.
Yellow Alert Issued for 72 Hours
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Pune district for the next 72 hours, warning of continued heavy rainfall in isolated areas. Authorities have urged residents to stay alert, avoid flooded zones, and monitor updates from official sources.
Citizens are also encouraged to take necessary precautions to ensure personal safety and minimize waterlogging-related risks, particularly in flood-prone areas.
