Pune : Police Enforce New Rules for Student Security; CCTV mandatory in every school bus
In a move aimed at strengthening the safety of school-going children, the Pune Police have issued a fresh set of directives concerning school transport services. These new rules emphasize the installation of CCTV cameras in school buses and mandate police verification of all staff associated with student transport.
CCTV Now Compulsory in School Buses
The Pune Police have made it mandatory for every school bus operating in the city to be equipped with functional CCTV cameras. This initiative is part of a larger drive to ensure better monitoring and accountability during student transit.
In addition to this, police verification of school bus drivers, conductors, cleaners, and any personnel in contact with students has also been mandated. Authorities believe this step will help prevent potential threats and enhance child safety.
Between January 1 and May 31, 2025, the Transport Department inspected 1,321 school buses and 650 other vehicles suspected of engaging in unauthorized student transport. These inspections are part of a broader effort to curb the illegal ferrying of schoolchildren, which poses significant risks to safety.
Strict Enforcement and Institutional Coordination
A high-level meeting was recently held under the chairmanship of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, with the participation of Deputy Commissioners of Primary and Secondary Education. During the meeting, it was decided that strict action would be taken against vehicles and drivers found violating the new safety norms.
