In a major relief for Pune residents, water storage in the Khadakwasla Dam chain the primary source of the city’s drinking and irrigation water has increased significantly. As of 6 a.m. today, the collective water storage across all four major dams in the chain stands at 13.16 TMC, accounting for 45.13% of total capacity. This is a fourfold increase compared to the same day last year, when storage was only 3.57 TMC (12.24%).

In the last 24 hours alone, the dams received an additional 487 million cubic feet of water. This significant increase has helped alleviate growing concerns over water supply in the city. According to officials, the consistent rainfall over the dam catchment areas has led to a rapid rise in storage levels.

Water has been released from the Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha River for the past eight days. So far, around 2.43 TMC of water has been discharged. At present, the dam maintains a water level of approximately 1.20 TMC, and planned releases will continue with close monitoring of rainfall patterns in the catchment areas.

With the monsoon still active and rainfall intensity expected to continue, the water situation in Pune is looking promising. The Pune Municipal Corporation and dam authorities have been closely tracking rainfall data and implementing necessary measures to manage the inflow and distribution efficiently.
