A ₹70 crore high-tech initiative has been launched to protect 22 biodiversity-rich hills in Pune. As part of this ambitious plan, a pilot project has begun at Bhopdev Ghat, integrating advanced technology to safeguard the region’s natural ecosystem.

The project will utilize CCTV cameras, motion sensors, night vision devices, drone patrolling, and smart alert systems to monitor and protect the hills. These technologies aim to curb encroachment, illegal tree cutting, unauthorized waste dumping, and fire incidents.

This innovative initiative is a collaborative effort between the Pune Municipal Corporation, the Forest Department, and several environmental organizations. Officials believe that the implementation of such modern surveillance systems will significantly strengthen efforts to conserve the city's green cover and biodiversity.

Once the pilot project proves successful, the model will be extended to other hills across the city. The administration has also appealed to citizens to participate actively in the protection and preservation of the hill ecosystems.Authorities are optimistic that this modern security setup will become a benchmark in urban environmental protection, ensuring the long-term sustainability of Pune's natural resources.
